Henry Schein Dental UK supports dental mission in Uganda

Henry Schein Dental UK supported The Salvadorian Children’s Earthquake Trust (SALCET) on their first dental mission in Uganda. The company donated important health care products to support the charity and Dr. Eroni Jjunju, dentist at Mata Dental Clinic in Masaka, Uganda, in providing urgently needed dental treatment. Mata Dental Clinic serves a large area population of over 1,7 Mio people.

During the two-week mission in late 2016, Dr. Chris Jagger, Chairman of SALCET, Dr. Jjunju and the SALCET medical mission team, took care of more than 400 patients. Dr Jjunju performed nearly 250 extractions, 50 fillings and 85 fissure sealants and more than 100 prophylaxis treatments and 60 topical fluoride applications. Two sessions of patient education including toothbrush instructions were given.

SALCET was established in 2005 in response to the emergency and long term rehabilitation needs of children damaged by earthquakes and other natural disasters in El Salvador and other vulnerable countries. Key activities are the provision of medical and supportive care to children affected by earthquakes, resourcing health care infrastructure and addressing specific health care needs in poor communities. *)

“Henry Schein is proud to support the SALCET team on their first dental mission,” said Simon Gambold, Henry Schein’s Vice President European Dental Northern Region and Marketing European Dental Group. “It is a very worthwhile cause to support those in need, above all children. With this mission, SALCET not only contributes to their oral health but also their total health.”

This initiative is part of Henry Schein Cares, the global corporate social responsibility program of Henry Schein. Henry Schein Cares helps increase access to care for underserved populations through three focus areas: wellness, prevention, treatment and education; emergency preparedness and relief; and building health care capacity. An important part of this work is providing support for cancer patients and their families.
