Finding your inner elf

Back in November 2016, Carol Vaughan met with the Henry Schein UK Angels to bring a team of energetic and creative Team Schein Members (TSMs), together to support the Alzheimer’s Society.

Dental health is vitally important for dementia sufferers. Sadly as their illness progresses they lose the ability to care for their teeth and gums and invariably experience gum disease and tooth loss. Henry Schein touches all areas of the dental industry supporting dental professionals, hospitals and institutions, who work so hard in order to provide care to those in need.

Hosting an Elf Day was a perfect way to get friends and colleagues together to celebrate the festive season and raise vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Carol explains:

“The Alzheimer’s Society helps people affected by dementia to stay connected to those they love for longer so that they can continue to live the life they want.  They provide a helpline and local dementia advisors to provide practical and emotional support to ensure people with dementia and their loved ones get the help they need.

It is an emotional and cruel illness which impacts everyone it touches.  Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia – that’s 225,000 people a year!

Not long ago a close family member was diagnosed with dementia and this news shook my families’ world. I was keen to raise funds and awareness of this debilitating disease by bringing Elf Day to Henry Schein. As word spread about this charity event, I was amazed at how many colleagues have been affected and I feel privileged that they shared some of their own stories with me.

I have been overwhelmed by the strength and support that our company and community have developed. Thank you to everyone that found their inner Elf and made this charity event such a success.”
